Mystery of the Ramen Infographic
[column size=”one-half”]
One of my coworkers knew how much I love ramen and sent me this picture he found on imgur. It’s pretty well design and reminds me of a comic I did about Momofuku a few years back. I have no idea where it is now sadly. All I can say is, this infographic is way better.
This got me curious about the creator(s) of this infographic so I went on a little online detective journey. Created by Hack College, it’s an online resource for students and teachers with posts like: 8 Things to Do or Learn before Your Freshmen Year, and 5 Pieces of Money Advice We Learn Too Late. Makes sense…ramen and students are pretty much synonymous at this point. I love that the Japanese pretty much refers to ramen as 学生料理 / Gakusei Ryouri / Student Cuisine.
The contributors to the sites are student themselves or recent graduates (I think). The posts are written in an informal way that other students will appreciate. BUT I still don’t see any designer in their contributor lists. Who made this infographic? I found the original posts here, but it doesn’t say who designed it. Anyway, my curiosity is now peaked so I emailed and tweeted Greg Voakes, the original writer of said post, to ask who designed it. No replies.
So I switched my strategy and asked the almighty Google instead. With a nice looking infographic like this, I would imagine this would pop up elsewhere as well. I quickly found it at Visual.ly which is basically heaven for infographic lovers. They not only showcase many infographics, but in recent years have built up a network where they can get someone to design an infographic for you. I found the ramen infographic here which thankfully states the designer as well: Riley Hoonan! I found you!
You can view more of his work on his website here. Mystery solved. I also got the info from Riley (see below) that the copywriting was done by Natalie Kach. Awesome job, guys!
Update: I got the verification from the artist himself!
@yaadayaada Yup, written by the talented @NatsK17 and designed by yours truly. Glad you enjoyed it!
