Farewell my Parks and Rec

No matter what I say, however passionate I try to say it will never fully express my love for this crazy, wonderful, and amazing show. I’m talking about Parks and Recreation on NBC. Started in April of 2009, the show went on to last seven delicious seasons. One tasting better than the last. Each season was filled to the brim with fatty goodness like the unhealthy yet delectable food the people of Pawnee is known for. Sets in this fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana, a group of possibly the only relatively healthy people of the town works together in the Parks department. Their fearless leader, Deputy Director Leslie Knope, tries her best to make her small town become the best it can be and then some. Because to Leslie, there is potential in anyone and anything. Except Jerry/Garry/Larry/Terry.

Parks and Rec was the FIRST show in my American TV viewing history that I realized what’s so great about following a series from the beginning to the end. You are “literally” growing up with the characters as the show progresses. Because television shows usually take on current events into their storyline, eventually you sorta realize that both you and the characters are both sharing something in common. You’re both enjoying a cup of hot chocolate during Christmas, you’re both having a fight with your best friends, or you’re both trying to get your crush to look at you. This show is so good at displaying the everyday as a way to connect with viewers. However, the greatest thing about this show is how the characters also bring new and creative ways to understand these everyday moments. You don’t really know how your friends feel or do after you guys fight. Well, maybe they’re drowning themselves in waffles. Have you thought about that?

Of course, I can’t talk about this show without talking about the awesome cast!

Parks and Recreation - Season 5

I mean, even the minor characters are so funny. In fact, many of the main cast started out as minor characters. By the second episode, I already saw the amazing chemistry between the casts. Their friendship might’ve been a budding flower at that moment, but I can already see it growing quickly. This feeling might be difficult for some to fully understand. It’s a very rare thing to happen, but the best comparison would be whenever you’re lucky enough to be in a classroom where you are friends with everyone. When literally you can sit down with anyone in class and have a blast. No diva. No stabbing in the back. And most importantly, no drama. That’s what the cast of Parks and Rec feel like to me. I’m very happy to say I was a part of a few of the those classrooms throughout my years and even the design studios where I’ve worked. That kind of friendship is infectious and so good to see in real live and on TV.
The only thing I can say is that I wish all the best to everyone. Chris Pratt, as most of us know, has been the breakout star (or should I say Star Lord) of this show, but everyone is so talented that I will definitely check out all of their future projects. Amy Poehler, of course, is such an amazing actor and person that I will forever follow her career.
